What We Offer

Academic Programme

The school is committed to providing high quality education in a supportive and encouraging environment. Students are encouraged to achieve their potential and strive for greater success.

The junior programme, Year 9 and 10, is a broad based approach preparing students for more specialised senior courses.

The senior programme, year 11 to 13, offers a wide range of national curriculum subjects for the New Zealand National Certificate of Educational Achievement.

Students are prepared to attend tertiary institutions and can undertake multi-level study. The qualifications are recognised qualifications for tertiary institutions and employers alike.

The subjects taken at Henderson High School can lead on to careers that offer life-long opportunities. The qualifications can help your student to enter a New Zealand tertiary institution, to undertake a course of studies that will lead to a specific career.

Activities Programme

International students are encouraged to take part in any of the numerous activities offered at the school. Drama, Music and Performing Arts are strong features of the school. We offer individual musical instrument instruction, musical performance groups and school productions. Students are encouraged to choose from the full range of individual and team sports and outdoor activities offered. The school also arranges local area orientation trips for international students.

English Language Proficiency Opportunities

We welcome students from all over the world and with differing levels of English language proficiency. Small group tuition is provided for International Students for whom English is a second language. ESOL support and classes are available. Senior students are prepared for the English Literacy standards required for entry into New Zealand universities.

Student Welfare

The school has a long-established guidance network. There is a full time guidance counsellor and a school doctor. The Director of International Students, the Co-ordinator and the Deans of each year level provide student support in all pastoral care matters. This includes enrolment, orientation, academic programmes, insurance, designated caregiver and homestay arrangements. Henderson High School is a signatory to the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students. Regular contact is maintained between school staff, the homestay service and each student and their homestay family.
