Mural Unveiling

The Big Reveal! We are thrilled that our incredible new school mural—a piece that embodies the values of Henderson High School has now been installed and revealed. This mural, unveiled by 2025 Arts Prefects, Sydney and Olivia, is a continuous visual journey representing Te Tuapapa o Panuku (our school values):

Whanaungatanga: Symbolized by the Matariki stars, reminding us we are connected.

Kotahitanga: A bright swirl bringing together our diverse cultures and voices.

Kaitiakitanga: Featuring Maruiwi the taniwha and native life, reminding us to protect our environment and our own hauora (wellbeing).

Manaakitanga: Represented by a strong, tall tree symbolizing community resilience and support.

The central waka guides this journey through waters patterned with kōwhaiwhai, showing how our values propel us forward every day, at school or at home.

A huge shout-out to the incredible students and staff who made this happen:

The Mural Committee (12 students, Y9-13): Including lead contributors Hannah (Y11), Ella (Y13), and Arts Captain Adarsh.

Guidance Experts: Whaea Rere and our senior Māori students for their wisdom on kōwhaiwhai and whakapapa.

Key Support: Principal Ms. Durkin, and Mr. Hales and Mr Rackham.

Miss Chisholm: Whose passion and dedication were crucial in turning this idea into a reality—thank you for settling for nothing less than perfection!

Live music and delicious kai were a wonderful part of the reveal—a big thank you to Miss Norman, Miss Wilderspin, our Year 12/13 Hospitality students, and our talented Music students! This mural and the event itself are a testament to what we can achieve when we work together and hold our values close.
