Application Process
Henderson High School welcomes applications from students aged 13-19 years old. We are a New Zealand Secondary School that teaches Years 9-13.

To apply you will need to complete the online application and provide the below supporting documents. All written documents must be translated into English.
Once you have completed your application and submitted all supporting documents, you will be contacted by a member of Henderson High School’s International Department on the outcome of your application.
For long term students, we may request an online interview or results from an English test such as IELTS or TOEFL. English ability is assessed on a case-by-case basis depending on your academic goals and length of study.
We recommend submitting your application at least 4 months in advance of your referred start date to allow for the application, enrolment and visa application processes.

Enrolment Process
Once you have received confirmation of your acceptance, we will send an Offer of Place and invoice to study at Henderson High School. Upon receiving payment for relevant fees, we will issue a receipt of payment to you. You will use the Offer of Place and receipt to apply for your student visa.
Then it’s time to prepare for you arrival in Aotearoa New Zealand! We will send you information on your homestay, pre-departure, and orientation information. Once you send us your flight details we will help with the airport pick-up process.
After arrival you will have an in-person orientation with Henderson High School. As part of your orientation, you will sit an English placement test confirm your class placements.
Visas and Insurance
All international students must have a valid student visa unless their country of citizenship is part of the Zealand Visa Waiver Programme. These students may study for up to 3 months without a student visa (6 months for UK citizens). Visa Waiver students must still apply online for an NZeTA.

It is compulsory for all international students to have suitable insurance. It is best if students purchase insurance through Henderson High School. This allows us to help if you do need to make a claim at any point.

Insurance coverage must include appropriate cover of the following:
– Travel, repatriation, expatriation, death and funeral expenses (unlimited cover)
– Medical and related expenses (unlimited cover)
The insurance cover required is extensive, please refer to the Student Safe policy documents below for more details. Insurance must start the day you leave your home country and end the day you arrive back in your home country.
Henderson High School can arrange insurance for you through Student Safe. The cost of a full year of coverage is NZD$699. Purchasing short term cover is available; pricing is dependent on the duration of cover needed.
If you wish to purchase insurance through your home country, Henderson High School must be provided a copy of your policy. All documents must be translated into English to ensure it meets all requirements. It is best if to check with us prior to purchasing your own insurance. If the insurance purchased does not meet our requirements, you will be asked to take out additional cover from Student Safe.
Code of Practice
Henderson High School is a signatory of The Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021 (The Code). The Code explains what education providers must do to ensure the wellbeing and safety of their learners.
Being a signatory to The Code is a commitment to making sure international learners enrolled with Henderson High School are safe and supported throughout their time in New Zealand.
