BACKGROUND
Henderson High School is located in the Henderson Valley in Waitakere City in West Auckland. It draws its students from a wide geographical area, stretching from the West Coast beaches, through the Waitakere Ranges, along the Henderson Valley and across both sides of Te Atatu Road. It has a home zone defined in an enrolment scheme.
Henderson High School is a decile 4 secondary (Years 9 - 13) school with a roll of approximately 750. The ethnic composition of the student body is Pakeha 52%, Maori 25%, Pasifika 12%, Asian 5% and others 6%.
The school has almost completed a significant refurbishment of existing buildings and is planning for new ones. The redevelopment is evolving within the environment of the large park-like and mature grounds of the 57 year old original secondary school in the West. In addition, the process of upgrading and replacement of teaching resources continues apace.
Relocation of the City Council building and improved access across the railway lines have placed Henderson High School at the heart of the city. The school has a deep commitment to the development of productive partnerships across the city for the benefit of our students. We have strong links with UNITEC and local businesses. Our students participate in local community projects such as the restoration of the Opanuku stream.
The remodelling and reshaping of the school in and around the core business of teaching and learning makes Henderson High School an exciting place to be for students, parents, staff and Board of Trustee members.
VISION
Henderson High School will be the leading community high school in Waitakere City. The community will have pride in the achievements of the school and its students.
